Web development services that bring in work
Most small business websites are tidy and bring in nothing. Web development services should make your site show up when someone searches for what you do, answer the question they arrived with, and make it easy to get in touch before they lose interest.

The web development problems
nobody warns you about
When a business owner tells us their last web development project went wrong, it is almost never about how the site looked. It is about what happened after it launched.
The domain was never in your name
Whoever provided the web development services registered the domain in their own name. You only find out the day you try to move. Then you are buying back something you thought you already owned.
You end up asking the company you are leaving to sell you your own web address.
Locked out of your own website
One invoice gets disputed and your admin login stops working.
The site keeps taking enquiries. You just cannot change a word of it.
They disappear
Nobody knows how it was built, where it is hosted, or what the password was.
The CMS barely works
You can change a paragraph. Anything bigger needs an invoice. So the site goes stale and stays stale.
It launched, and nothing happened
No enquiries. Google was never told what the site was for, and nobody was told it existed.
The costs keep arriving
A bill for an SSL certificate you never asked for. A renewal at twice last year. Nine months left on a web development contract nobody mentioned you had signed.
Every one of these comes back to the same thing — somebody else holds the keys.
Start with the job, not the platform
Most people choose the platform first and work out what they needed afterwards. That is backwards, and it costs money to undo. Ask what the site has to do for your business and good web development services will make the platform answer itself.
WordPress
You want to be found on Google, add pages as the business grows, and edit things yourself. Web development services on WordPress never tie you to one supplier.
Needs someone named as responsible for updates and backups.
Shopify
You sell physical products. Stock and payments are handled for you. You rent the setup rather than own it.
Charges a fee on every sale, forever. Poor fit for a service business.
Wix / Squarespace
You need something online this week, it will not need to grow, and nobody is searching for you yet.
Moving your content and web addresses out later is genuinely hard.
Built for you
Trade pricing, a booking flow with real rules, an integration with the software you already run.
Only worth it if the job it replaces is costing you money now.
Not sure which one is right? Ask us before you commit.
A free thirty-minute call. We ask what your business does and what you want the site to bring in, then tell you which platform fits. Even when the answer is web development services we do not sell, or that the site you already have is fine.
What our web development services actually build
Most jobs land in one of these five. Here is what each one involves, and what you own at the end.
Get found for the work you actually want.
Every service gets its own page. That gives Google something to rank and your customer something to read — the same thing Google Search Central has recommended for years. Our web development services also build to the Core Web Vitals thresholds, and put a way to contact you on every screen rather than burying it on a single one.
- A page for every service you sell
- Local pages for the areas you cover
- Google Business Profile linked up
- Enquiry forms that actually reach you
- Fast on a phone, on 4G, first time
- Search set up properly from day one
Let the diary fill while you are on a job.
Customers pick a slot that suits them, and you get their details before the call. No missed voicemails and no texting back and forth to find an hour that works.
- Online booking with your real availability
- Deposits taken at the point of booking
- Automatic confirmations and reminders
- Syncs with the calendar you already use
- Quote requests with the right questions
- Everything lands in one inbox
Sell online without a platform taking a slice.
WooCommerce for public sales or trade-only ordering. You control stock, delivery rules and trade pricing, and no fee leaves your margin on every sale.
- WooCommerce built on your own hosting
- Separate trade and retail pricing
- Stock, delivery zones and postage rules
- Card payments and Apple / Google Pay
- Abandoned basket recovery emails
- Shopify instead, when it genuinely suits
Stop answering the same question by phone.
Customers log in and see their own files, invoices and progress. The admin that fills your evenings becomes something the website handles.
- Customer logins with their own area
- Documents, invoices and job history
- Progress they can check themselves
- Internal dashboards for your team
- Connected to your CRM or accounts
- Automatic updates instead of phone calls
Take back a site somebody else built.
Slow, dated, or tied to an agency that has stopped replying. We move it, rebuild it, and put every login back in your name.
- Moved off your old agency
- Rebuilt without losing your Google rankings
- Faster on phones and on mobile data
- Broken pages and old links tidied up
- Security, backups and updates sorted
- Written handover, with every login, at the end
Five web development steps,
and you always know which one you are on
No disappearing for six weeks. Web development services should be visible: you see the site as it is built, and nothing goes live until you have signed it off.
A proper conversation
Thirty minutes on what your business does and what the site has to achieve. You leave with a written plan and a fixed price.
Structure and words
Every page is built around what people actually type into Google, then written in plain English. You approve it before any design starts.
Design you can see early
A real page in your browser, not a flat picture. You change things while changing them is still cheap.
Build and test
Checked on real phones and set up properly for Google. Speed, forms and bookings all tested before launch.
Launch and hand over
We move it live, watch it for a week, and train your team. Then it is yours, accounts and files and all.
You own every part of the web development. In writing.
This is the part of web development nobody talks about, so we deal with it first. Here is the difference between how it usually goes and how we do it.
Web development services pricing,
before you have to ask for one
Most agencies make you sit through a call before they will say a figure. These are the ranges web development services of this size land in. You get a fixed price in writing before anything starts, and never an hourly meter. The figures are indicative; your fixed price is agreed before work begins.
For a trade or service business that needs to look right on Google and get the phone ringing.
- Up to 8 pages, written for you
- A page per service you sell
- Mobile and speed pass
- Search basics set up properly
- Domain and hosting in your name
- 30 days of fixes after launch
For a site with a job to do. Bookings, enquiries, quotes, or a shop that has to earn its keep.
- Everything in the first tier
- Booking or enquiry system
- Or a WooCommerce shop
- Connected to your calendar or CRM
- Training so your team can edit it
- 90 days of support after launch
For a portal, a tool, or a rebuild where the website takes over admin you are doing by hand.
- Customer logins and portals
- Internal dashboards and tools
- Rescues from another agency
- Integrations with your systems
- Phased so you see it as it lands
- Ongoing care plan available
Placeholder ranges — replace these with your real numbers before launch.
Web development questions
people actually type into Google
Web development is everything that makes a website work — not just how it looks. Design is the layout and the colours. Development is the code underneath: the pages loading fast, the contact form reaching your inbox, the booking slot actually being reserved, the shop taking a card payment safely. A designer draws it. A developer makes it do the job.
Squarespace is quicker to start and fine if you need a tidy few pages and nothing more. The catch is that you rent it: you cannot move the site anywhere else, and you are limited to what their templates allow. WordPress takes more setting up, but you own the files, you can host it wherever you like, and it will still do what you need in five years when the business has changed. If you are a local business that wants to rank and grow, WordPress is usually the safer long-term choice — and we will tell you honestly if it is not.
Anywhere from a few hundred pounds for a template you build yourself to tens of thousands for a large custom system. For a Birmingham trade or service business, a properly built site with real content usually lands between £1,200 and £5,500 depending on how much the site has to do. Be careful with quotes far below that — the cost usually reappears later as a monthly fee you cannot cancel, or a site you do not own.
A straightforward service site is typically four to six weeks. A shop or booking system is six to ten. The part that slows almost every project down is not the build — it is waiting on photos, text and sign-off. We write the content for you and give you a dated plan up front so you know exactly what is needed from you and when.
You do — and you should check this with anyone you hire. Your domain should be registered in your business name, your hosting account should be in your name, and you should hold the admin login. A lot of small businesses only discover the previous developer registered everything in their own name at the point they try to leave. We set it up in your name from day one and hand over every login in writing at the end.
